Hi guys I know that you don’t officially support Linux, but I bough the plugin on PluginBoutique hoping ( like many many other windows VST that I have bought ) that it would run on my Linux install through wine and yabridge.
SubLab XL installs fine and loads to the point where it is looking for my Registry key, but as soon as i paste this in and hit the ‘Let’s go’ button I get a crash.
Looking through my wine logs it looks like it’s failing where the plugin is looking for what looks like the machine serial number [[ 0538:err:combase:RoGetActivationFactory Failed to find library for L"Windows.System.Profile.SystemManufacturers.SmbiosInformation" ]], which unfortunately I cannot seem to make stick through the windows emulation.
Is there any way that I could make an entry into the registry with my serial number to bypass this blocking stage or would you guys be willing to help troubleshoot this?

Just a few additional notes that hopefully might help the developers :-
(1) My registered Email has 2 ‘.’ characters , could this still be an issue regarding registering SubLabXL ?
(2) It seems that the latest beta fixed the registering problem for some people on Windows, but not others.
Could this be something to do with how the License system reads from the bios?
I’m guessing that like most VST License systems, the computers name and possible machine ID etc are read using the SMBIOS Tables and if the OEM manufacturer hasn’t set this up properly or just some BIos’s are a bit more picky about allowing access to this info then maybe it can be causing problems.
Hell I know that my Machine License key is only 8 characters long instead of the usual 25, which can be a nightmare if you are trying to reinstall Windows.

We tested the licensing system against vanilla Windows installations, on common hardware. Virtualization/emulation is a very special case we couldn’t handle for this first release.

@Aymeric_FAW Oh can I ask what API or Libs are you guys using to interface with the Licensing system as this might help me look in the right direction .
I’m assuming that WMI is used for gathering the machine information to create the hash for the serial number. Unfortunately WMI support is only half baked into wine if that is the case.
It’s also a known fact that wine cannot properly ‘fake’ system settings such as the BIOS, partly the reasoning being that this would make piracy very easy.
I wonder if a hook could be added into the code of SublabXL that if it flags the OS as a virtual environment like wine, that it could pull the needed info right from the bios using linux’s ‘dmidecode’ see here: dmidecode link using some form of wrapper ?
wines implementation of WMI can pull some info, that could be used to show that it is a virtual environment e.g :-
wmic bios get version returns wine -1
wmic diskdrive get name returns Wine Disk Drive
wmic bios get serialnumber returns 0
There are probably a lot more commands that do work also.

regular SubLab, however I highly doubt that the underlying issue will be different
other major VSTs have no issues, soundtoys, serum, fabfilter, etc
p.s: WINE isn’t virtualization or emulation, ahem ACKSHUALLY
W.I.N.E literally stands for “Wine Is Not an Emulator”
it is a compatibility layer, one that actually runs FL better than windows hilariously enough
