Notes Feature Requests Thread ✨

Would absolutely love a glide or portamento effect as atm I don’t see a way to enable it :((

There is glide…but only from one stolen voice to the next.

It would be great to have the ability to record custom chords either directly in the lab or straight to the bank. Native Instruments Playbox offers this feature, which makes chord creation much more intuitive. Currently, having to manually search for the chords I want feels cumbersome, and the beta chord detection hasn’t been reliable for me. The plugin is already excellent, but adding these quality-of-life improvements would significantly enhance the user experience and take it to the next level.

@NNOIRR, just did a quick screencast of how to edit chords.

You need to hover over the chord, click edit…then your in edit mode. Then you’ll see the text “Currently Editing Chord 1” etc on the legend.

The root note is marker “R” and is currently the lowest note in the chord. To add or remove notes, just click on the notes on the keyboard. Each time you add a new note it will preview the chord.

Currently, the quantize to scale is not turned on when in edit mode, but we can enable this also if it helps….that way you can’t add notes that are not in the global session key.

Let me know if this helps and if it is easy to use!

Thank you @Gavin_FAW for your response and the helpful link. It seems like a fun way to experiment with new progressions.

I may not have been clear before — what I’m looking for is a feature that allows quick chord recording in addition to entering chords note by note. I saw your screen grab showing that the plugin lets you add custom chords by clicking individual notes, which is great, but sometimes it’s much faster and more intuitive to record chords live via MIDI.

A simple workflow could be:
Chords from Scratch > Select Bank Number > Record desired chord input

I use Ableton and often write chords in other VSTs like Ripchord, Chordimist, or NI Playbox, then route MIDI out to other devices after finishing my writing. Your plugin’s Notes feature makes MIDI output easy but entering chords manually takes more time.

Adding live chord recording would speed this up significantly and could easily replace those other VSTs I currently use for chord writing, making your plugin a more complete all-in-one tool.

Does that make sense?

I think I know what you mean @NNOIRR but correct me where I am wrong…

You want to hit record and play in the chords vs typing in the chord names.

  1. You click “New Palette” and you end up with 7 empty slots for chords.
  2. You then click “Record” and you start playing in chords.
  3. To record a chord….first note down starts adding notes to a chord slot ( say slot 1)
  4. In your chord, there are 3 notes. You play 3 notes. Once all three notes are lifted, the slot is filled and Notes automatically jump to filling slot 2.
  5. At any point you can click on a chord and edit notes ( like the way it currently works )
  6. Once finished, click anywhere outside the chord area and it exits record mode (this might need refinement to the workflow)
  7. Finally you chord plalette is auto saved or a window pops up with a default name “My Chords 2” etc

Is this what you’re thinking?

@Gavin_FAW This is great here’s my only suggestion with step 4 .

Single Record + Slot selector (Current / Fill mode)

You click the single Record button to turn recording ON.
Click a slot number to pick which slot you want to write to.
While Record is ON, play a chord — the plugin saves exactly the notes you pressed into that slot (replacing anything already there).
Click outside the chord area to stop recording or edit the saved chord.
If Fill mode is ON, the plugin moves to the next slot after saving so you can keep recording the next chord; if Fill is OFF, it stays on the same slot.

Just found a little trick here to hold down notes with the Groove transformer. If you’re playing through your progression and you want to hold it down for longer, you can trigger the strum right at the end to make the notes sustain for as long as you want.

I made a video here.

It’s a decent workaround for now but I’d still really love to have “hold notes” as an option or even be the default behavior! I won’t give up until this feature is added! :winking_face_with_tongue:

For real though, is the option something you might add in an update or should I just give it up? I don’t want to be a pest.

We’re up for adding anything but also have finite time. Usually how we work is that if a few people ask for something then we do it.

With your request, it makes sense and we understand the problem. The thing is we need it to be a problem for more people before we commit two devs for a day to fix it…in saying that when we do the next version ( pretty soon ) if its an easy thing to add we’ll do it!

Hang in there!

Gavin.

That’s totally understandable! I’m just surprised that no one else has requested that behavior. I guess I’m using it in an “edge case” way. Anyway, I’ll use Julia’s work around for now. Thanks guys!

Julia - sorry for the ungrateful tone! I appreciate the workaround and will use it until it’s no longer needed.

No worries! Another thing I found; you can also press the “groove” transformer key to turn it off at the end of the chord to keep the notes sustained.

Is there a way to delete chords that were taken from songs? I’ve added a lot of chords from songs I like before the last update which I believe you all made that feature even better and I can’t find it anywhere in the chords menu

You’re talking about chords that you’ve added via the “Chord Sampler” right?

Those are added to the “My Chords” folder so you can delete them by going to:

macOS: /Library/ApplicationSupport/FAW/Notes/Chords/My Chords
PC: C:/Program Files/FAW/Notes/Chords/My Chords

And then delete whichever ones you don’t want to keep.

We need a better dedicated Note Glide feature, I’ve tried everything and still can’t get these Pops and clicks out of presets that have the Bass Synth Engine in it. I’ve even raised the attack & releases of the volume envelopes but still no dice @Julia @Gavin_FAW . I’ve changed the voicing settings and everything and still getting clicks after each bass note in the latest beta version. I’m stuck to using all other presets instead which is bumming me out really cause the other presets sound really good but unusable w/ Bass.

Ok…let me check this @oceanxxsounds….we’re having to catch up on tutorial videos this week and next, but first moment we’ve got those done we’re back into working on the feature requests.
